Today, February 28, is Prairie Rock Brewing Co.'s last brew. The owners have decided to close the doors after 13 years at their location in Downtown Elgin.
Prairie Rock opened in the old Grove Theater back in 1995, in the heyday of flannel shirts, combat boots and microbreweries. The restaurant has played a maverick role in the revitalization of downtown.
I will personally miss the cozy, rugged atmosphere and their signature Vanilla Creme Ale.
Thank you to the Prairie Rock owners, brewmasters and staff for 13 wonderful years of partnership in Downtown Elgin. We are sad to see you go, and we wish you the best.
